Forest district OKs union pactsChicago Sun-TimesSeptember 12, 2005Cook County Forest Preserve District commissioners have grudgingly approved six union contracts that call for varying salary increases, but no increases in the amount employees pay for their share of insurance premiums. Commissioner Gregg Goslin (R-Glenview) asked last week why taxpayers were paying more for insurance, but not employees, and he was joined by other commissioners who said County Board President John Stroger's negotiators must demand employees pay more for the rising premiums, given tight budgets. Stroger responded that the contracts were largely retroactive and negotiators will focus on reducing premiums in future contracts. Goslin, along with Commissioners Carl Hansen, Mike Quigley and Liz Gorman, each voted "present" on the contracts.
